Step out for Sustainable Fashion!

Novocastrians are being invited to attend the inaugural sustainable fashion Gala Event “Indigo” being hosted by Newcastle-based charity Corethics next month. The event, being held at Modus Merewether, is shaping up to be jam-packed with delicious dining, international guests and cultural performances. There is also a raft of enticing items on offer in the silent auction; from couture garments to luxury getaways and sporting memorabilia.

Local businesses, including platinum sponsor Eat Your Water, have lined up to support the event. “It’s a real melding of different worlds! We’re bringing the fashion world together with water industry professionals and locals who are passionate about protecting the environment” Board Director and Engineer Marnie Coates said, “Not to mention those guests who just love Bali and want to see the region thrive!”

The event is raising funds for Corethics’ Waste 4 Wealth project in Pemogan, Indonesia. The grassroots project implements low-cost wastewater treatment solutions, to change the way that toxic waste from Bali’s Batik textiles factories is managed. “We work within communities and industry to implement basic treatment and water reuse systems. Our designs are open-source and we provide training and technical support free of charge to factory operators. We even work with them to sell the benefits of sustainable practises to their customers” Marnie said. “It’s incredibly important work. With a single donation of $15,000, we can stop over 1 million litres of toxic wastewater from entering the rivers and ocean each year. For the Balinese people, who rely on these same rivers for their crops, household and livelihood, these projects have the potential to be lifesaving.”
